SCADpro X SEDA

Project Scope

In this SCADpro, my team of interdisciplinary students worked with the Savannah

Economic Development Authority (SEDA) to develop an interactive solution to help SEDA engage with clients, sell their services, and exhibit Savannah’s many features and opportunities.

During this time, they were in the process of transitioning to new headquarters on Forsyth Park, and had a dedicated conference room for the solution to reside. Through working with SEDA, and interviewing their client success stories, we developed a solution that could be tailored to the meetings they were preparing, while wow-ing the client in their headquarters, and creating that emotional connection with Savannah.

The design process involved several client meetings with SEDA, UX research (including surveys and interviews with local businesses), presentation preparation and delivery, storyboard sketching and writing, video editing and web design.

Our deliverables included a large format mural that could be installed in the conference room, 10 full color storyboards and scripts that illustrated various important themes we discovered, and developing two of those concepts into pilot videos. The finalized videos could then be displayed for the client in the conference room during the meeting with SEDA.

Project Activities

Brainstorming

After our initial design brief with SEDA, we created teams focused on certain aspects of the project. Team formation was based on individual's skills and experience. But first, we all came to the table to discuss the project scope and what the solution might look like.

UX Research

Research was conducted in the form of an online survey -- asking participants what makes people want to come to and fall in love with Savannah, and 3 interviews with local business owners to better understand the benefits of operating a business in Savannah.

Client Meetings

Client Meetings

We performed regular check-ins with the client to present our progress and get feedback to help steer the outcome in the desired direction.

Interactive Tablets

Interactive Tablets

Interactive Tablets

Tablets mounted in SEDA's company vehicles would be a first touchpoint for potential clients to learn more about Savannah and the surrounding area. The tablets would host an initial screener about why they were there, and display highlight reels about Savannah and the surrounding area.

Touchscreen Table

Inlaid on the surface of the conference room table would be a large touchscreen display. The display would feature a map of Savannah and a live-feed of the port, and be able to communicate with a TV on the conference room wall. The table display would feature an interactive map that hosts information and imagery about preset locations.

Inside the conference room, clients would be captivated by a large mural that uses

a scrim effect: layered material and specialized lighting that would bring the mural to life. Some parts fade into the

background as others are highlighted.

Project Solution

SEDA chose to develop a boardroom mural and "vignettes" -- short commercial videos that highlight aspects of Savannah. Together, the mural and vignettes comprise a visually compelling conversation starter that would reinforce the story SEDA tells about Savannah while also showcasing some of its most valuable and distinct qualities. This solution's deliverables were 10 production ready storyboards with scripting, print ready mural art, and 2 concept videos that brought the storyboards to life as sample vignettes.

Nature Vignette

In a nature preserve, hunters emerge from a cabin secluded in trees. The camera explores forest trails, a waterway, wildlife, and kayakers. It comes to beach with waves and sandpipers, then follows boats to a dock bar and a cityscape, ending at a stone archway with the tagline:

"Savannah: It's just outside your door."
